Marché Cluny - Cap-Haitien, Haiti

The site where Marché Cluny stands today was originally a marshy area during colonial times. It was drained and developed into a public square known as Place Cluny in 1764. It became a location where enslaved Africans were sold during the period when Cap-Français (the colonial name for Cap-Haïtien) was a major port in the Atlantic slave trade.
Afterwards, a market operated there in the open air to relieve overcrowding in the older market at Place-d’Armes.. Built by President Florvil Hyppolite, a native of Cap-Haitien in 1890, Marche Cluny became the commercial hub of the City until today.

As people flee gang violence in the Port-au-Prince region, hundreds of new young learners are arriving monthly in Saint-Marc, Haiti to the MHFC school. MHFC School is struggling to accommodate their needs and provide a quality education. A new classroom is necessary!
